South Korea sent a large-sized business delegation to Cuba to attend the ‘2016 Korea Week’ aimed at expanding bilateral economic cooperation between Seoul and Havana.
The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency(KOTRA) said on Monday that the delegation, consisting of representatives from 74 local companies, is attending the event that kicked off on Sunday for a six-day run.
The South Korean delegation includes big players such as Samsung Electronics and Hyundai Motor, as well as small and mid-sized enterprises and 18 Korean companies based overseas.
During their visit to Cuba, the companies will also participate in the Havana International Fair(FIHAV), where they will set up 22 Korea-related pavilions introducing South Korean products such as electronic home appliances, car parts and medical equipment.
Marking the 17th anniversary this year, the FIHAV, the largest international trade fair in Cuba, will bring together around four-thousand-500 companies from 60 countries.
Since reestablishing diplomatic relations with the U.S. in July of last year, Cuba has accelerated opening up the country. South Korean companies are hoping to seize on the expanded business opportunities in Cuba as demand is growing in the medicine, bioengineering, construction, electricity, auto and machinery industries.
