Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and of Pedesaan South Korea announced on Thursday (13/04/2017) that it has approved the plan for the procurement of 750 tonnes of rice aid for asean in a meeting’s Rice Emergency (asean) Plus Three (apterr).

Apterr is a backup system of rice that was established in march 2013 by south korea, china and japan, with ten members of asean countries, in order to jointly deal with the food crisis in the region.

An official ministry of agriculture said that although such assistance in the number of small, but is the first time for south korea who was previously a country receiving aid, can now provide food aid to other countries.

The rice provided by south korea will be stored for a year in myanmar and cambodia. When an emergency occurs, then rice will be distributed to people who need it. If it is not an emergency occurs, then rice will be used to eradicate poverty in the following year.
