Catching crabs by South Korean fishing this year decreased by 70% compared to last year. This is due to the proliferation of illegal fishing by Chinese fishing boats in the waters south of the Northern Limit Line in the Yellow Sea-NLL,

According to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries on Friday (10/06/2016), catching crabs in April was 575 tons, down 69% than the same period last year. Total arrests accumulated January to April reached 664 tons and up to a third on the same period last year.

Catching crabs are usually affected the existence of small crabs that incubate the previous year. The number of small crabs last year only half of the year 2013 so that the arrest rate decreased.

However, the fishermen claimed illegal arrests by Chinese fishing boats, which recur every season into a more serious element to the decrease in the number of crab catching.

In connection with that, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries held a meeting related ministry on Friday (06/10/2016), and discussed the issue of providing support for local fishermen who suffered losses.
