The government has vowed to actively deal with trade protectionism and nontariff barriers as part of efforts to boost the country’s exports.

Deputy Minister for Trade Lee In-ho said on Tuesday during a regular news briefing that government ministries will designate officials who will update data and developments regarding nontariff barriers.

Lee said that the government will also provide consulting services for companies and support companies’ negotiations with foreign governments on the matter.

The government will also enhance the database of nontariff barriers on the trade information Web site TradeNAVI.or.kr, while providing information on how to respond in stages.

In addition, the government will support research and development activities for companies seeking to develop products subject to regulations abroad.

The government plans to prioritize the issue of nontariff barriers in free trade agreement talks and put the issue at the top of the agenda in high-level talks with other governments.
