Ministry of Trade Attempting to Develop Non-Oil Exports in 2014
Jakarta, 8 Januari 2014 – “The effort of developing exports in 2014 will be improved through several policies and programs focused on enhancing human resource quality as well as the export products quality,” PEN Directorate General, Nus, Nuzulia Ishak, stated on a press conference about Export Developing Program held today (8/1) in Ministry of Trade office, Jakarta.
Nus also said that in 2014, the Ministry of Trade optimist that Indonesia’s export performance will get better than last year. “The total amount of Indonesia’s export from January to November 2013 reached USD 165,6 billion and the value is expected to gain up to USD 178 billion by the end of the year. And export value this year is also expected to be at least equal as in 2012, that was USD 190 billion or gain 5% increase. This should be possible as the government intensify more in supporting Indonesia’s exporter competency and capacity improvement.
This year, PEN Directorate General noted that they have made 179 well-coordinated promotional activities intensively both in and outside the country. Around 55% of the activities will be held in non-traditional market while 41% in traditional market, while the rest will be held inside the country.
“In the same page with PEN DG’s aim to increase Indonesia’s non-oil exports, we have decided 179 promotional programs together with Indonesian representative overseas. The program itself participated in international exhibitions, doing the trade mission, and in-store promotions. Furthermore, PEN DG will hold the 29th annual Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) on 8-12 October 2014 to support promotional activities inside,” Nus said.
The promotional abroad is determined based on the information and advices about export target market that has been compiled by PEN DG or representative of Trade Ministry abroad, they are 19 Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC), 24 trade attaches, trade consulate in Hong Kong, and Trade Office and Economy of Indonesia (KDEI) in Taipei. Through trade office representatives is expected could boost Indonesia’s export development by enriching information about export target market.
Nus said that PEN DG has carried on several programs, including Coaching Program in cooperation with Trade Facilitation Office (TFO) Canada that has been going on since 2014. “This program is aimed for Small Local Enterprises (UKM) to be able to run their exports effectively by fixing and accomplishing management and production. We also help exporters during the export process”, Nus said.
PEN has joined with International Trade and Promotional Offices (TPO) in North America, Efrica, Asia, Europe, and Middle East and soon will be objectified to improve Indonesia’s non-oil export. Beside that, PEN also cooperate with other international organizations and associations to increase export capacity as well as Indonesia’s promotion products.
While on human resources side, this year Indonesia Export Training and Education Center carries on education and training in international trading for exporters with the target of 4.360 participants. Beside that PEN also facilitates exporters and UKM in developing and adapting products in order to improve the quality of main export products and potential products. This could be achieved through Designmer Dispatch Service (DDS) were producers and designers meet to enhance quality design of a product to adjust with (selera pasar tujuan export).
