Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kim Dong-yeon says the government will exert all-out efforts to resolve key trade issues with the U.S.
Appearing on a radio program on Friday, Kim said the government will first do its best to convey its stance to Washington on the U.S.’ plan to slap heavy tariffs on steel imports. He said if such efforts prove ineffective, the government will take steps in response.
Asked if Seoul will take retaliatory steps if the U.S. does not exempt South Korea from the tariffs, Kim said it is not appropriate to make predictions when negotiations with the U.S. are currently under way.
Kim added that South Korea is considering filing a complaint with the World Trade Organization against U.S. safeguards on Korean washing machines and solar panels.
