The Rural Development Administration has announced the results of its survey on farming income for 56 key agricultural crops in 2016.
The results released Monday show that among crops grown in greenhouses, cucumbers earned 15-point-four million won per one-thousand square meters of cultivation area, followed by tangerines at 15-point-two million won and tomatoes at 13 million.
Bell peppers and strawberries trailed the list, earning just under 13 million and 12 million won per one-thousand square meters, respectively.
The administration said that farms raising four-thousand square meters of cucumbers or tangerines can earn the average income level of a city worker, which was over 58 million won last year.
Among crops grown outdoors, leeks were the most profitable earning three-point-nine million won per one-thousand square meters of land. Trailing the list were chives, kiwis, grapes and peaches.
