The government has announced a comprehensive plan to enhance the country’s ginseng industry.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on Tuesday said under the plan, it will increase annual ginseng production to one-and-a-half trillion won and expand related exports to 300 million U.S. dollars by 2020.

Last year, the nation’s ginseng production marked 816 billion won and its ginseng exports reached 155 million dollars. The government plans to double both figures within five years.

The country’s ginseng production has steadily increased since 1995, reaching a peak at one-point-83 trillion won in 2012. But since then, it marked a downturn due to the economic slowdown.
