A recent study has reported that South Korean exports of items benefitting from high tariff cuts under the South Korea-China free trade agreement(FTA) have gone up.

A study by the Korea International Trade Association’s Institute for International Trade unveiled on Sunday showed that items receiving tariff cuts of three percent or more had seen trade volume grow exponentially.

The items include applied electronics and metal machine tools, which saw exports grow by 97-point-six percent and 29-point-nine percent respectively. Knitted goods and apparel also received tariff cuts of at least three percent.

The Seoul-Beijing FTA took effect on December 20th last year, triggering the first round of tariff cuts. The second round of cuts took effect on January first this year. The deal marks its 100th day on Monday.

The study also showed that 344 items receiving customs cuts of three to six percent saw exports grow, while exports of 386 items receiving two to three percent cuts also grew. At least 320 items that received tariff cuts of one to two percent saw their export volume grow while 176 items receiving tariff cuts between zero and one percent saw exports increase.
