A survey finds that telecommunications costs in South Korea are relatively low compared to other countries.

The Korea Telecommunications Services Index Development Council said Friday that mobile communication fees in South Korea ranked third and fifth cheapest among eleven major economies last year.

Reflecting purchasing power and foreign exchange rates, 3G and LTE smartphone fees were the third lowest in South Korea while LTE the fifth lowest.

The countries surveyed included Germany, the U.S., Sweden, Spain, the UK, Italy, Japan, Canada, France and Australia.

The council said that mobile rates were lower in the UK, Sweden and Italy and that cost levels in Korea were similar to the previous year.

Since last year, the council has released the telecommunications services index, which it based on service usage and fees in major countries.
