Jakarta – The Ministry of Commerce said that the potential in the domestic animation market is still promising, which in Indonesia is a very large market with a population of 253 million people and 30 percent of them are middle class.

“Demand in the domestic animation products is very large. But not only in the country, the demand for animation products in foreign markets is even greater, with the profit that promise,” said Director General of National Export Development Nus Nuzulia Isaac on launching Baros International Animation Frestival (BIAF) in 2015, in Jakarta, Monday (22/6).

Nus said, the potential of the local market is very open which of the existing 253 million middle class as much as 30 percent and the average economic growth in the last 10 years reaching 6.1 percent.

“With BIAF activities like this, the government is optimistic to the future world of animation Indonesia will grow larger so that the needs of imported films, video, photography, and animation on the wane,” said Nus.

Nus added, therefore activities such as BIAF need to be encouraged in order to enhance the competitiveness of the domestic industry with the international order capable of advancing the national economy while contributing to the increase in Indonesian exports.

In addition, continued Nus, natural and cultural richness Indonesia can be a source of inspiration in creating works of animation more unique and distinguishing the animation products from other countries.

“The growth in the number of qualified animators, increasing the number of animation studios, and the development of communities in Indonesia today animation shows an animation creative resources in Indonesia have started to evolve,” said Nus.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the value of exports subsector film, video, photography, and animation in the year 2010 reached Rp 595 billion in 2013 and recorded an increase to Rp 639 billion.

BIAF 2015 held in Cimahi, West Java at 7-10 October 2015 aims to demonstrate the potential and quality of the best animated works include building a global network for the animation industry in Indonesia. Last year, a similar event is able to attract 6,000 visitors and was attended by 48 participants in the country of origin.
